Sometimes I think the majority of the world is full of manipulative, selfish people. I used to not be that way. I used to be all Ann Frank-esque: “I still think people are basically good.”
But the evidence that people are NOT basically good is really stacking up. It’s kinda like global warming - when the topic was first discussed, I didn’t want to believe the ugly truth. But when spring starts 2 weeks earlier every year and the ice caps look noticeably different in satellite photos, there has to be a day when you throw up your hands and say, “Yep. We’re screwed.”
When it comes to people, I’m almost crashed into every day by some asshole on the road, just to get to work and find out person A is lying about me behind my back, or person B says I suck… and then person C says right in front of a classroom full of other people that I don’t “understand adult learning theory” because I’ve asked her to hold her questions until I was done with my presentation, well… the scientific evidence is in. PEOPLE SUCK. (And I’m including me in with the “people” I’m talking about too. Every day I do something that in hindsight, I wish I could have handled better.)
I’m seeing life through shit-colored glasses lately, I guess.

I’m very much a pessimist these days, too. I’m involved in a wrongful termination lawsuit with my former employer and was disappointed to discover that they just make stuff up to defend themselves — horrible, terrible lies about me. This means several people in administrative positions and their lawyers conspired to LIE. And, these people go home to their families and sleep at night without a twinge of guilt.
If I worked for an organization and they asked me to participate in a lying conspiracy, I’d quit!
People don’t have honor and integrity anymore. That’s how things like the Iraq War and Enron happen. PEOPLE DO SUCK!
I also dislike people but I take it a step or two further. I hate most living things — people, animals, plants. Burn in hell, you friggin’ plants!
I agree Wirthy! Those chlorophyll suckers - I want to kick them in their viney ass! Or… roots I guess.
