My partner and I read the first one aloud to each other while often howling with laughter at her small town shenanigans. We both grew up in rural communities during that same era and alot of her tales spoke directly to us. Fortunately for us, we both had more balanced home lives than Zippy, but it was great to read about her mom's triumphs later in her life. She made me want to go out and buy an old VW beetle. We recommended this book to everyone we knew and loaned it out to most of them. You're right, get both books at the same time. We had to wait a couple of years for the second one, but I got it as a Christmas gift last December. I LOVE these books.
